Sunny Day Real Estate: Jeremy Enigk: (vocals, guitar); Dan Hoerner (guitar); J. Palmer (bass); William Goldsmith (drums).
Personnel: Jeremy Enigk (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Dan Hoerner (vocals, guitar); William Goldsmith (drums, percussion).
Audio Mixers: Greg Williamson; Adam Kasper.
Recording information: Bob Lang Studio (03/10/1998-04/26/1998).
Unknown Contributor Role: Nick Barber.
The reassembled Sunny Day Real Estate, minus original bassist Nate Mendel (departed for Foo Fighters), has quieted down a notch since its eponymous 1995 album, but the group hasn't compromised its characteristic intensity. HOW IT FEELS is a dark and haunting album that creates an unforgettable mood by layering angry, powerful guitar chords and Jeremy Enigk's yearning vocals against a glowing musical background. Longing and desire permeate the lovely, restrained "Every Shining Time You Arrive," and the frustration is palpable on "How it Feels to Be Something On." Their third album takes Sunny Day Real Estate's typical darkness and anxiety and adds a big helping of maturity and restraint, with a result that will please both fans and neophytes.
