I Can Tell the World

As one of the earliest forms of contemporary African American music - the ancestor of gospel, jazz, blues, r&b and rap - old-time spiritual music retains a level of cultural and historical importance that cannot be denied. The documentary I CAN TELL THE WORLD hones in on a multigenerational, interracial choir that understands this, with an overarching commitment to the preservation of African American spirituals such as "Go Down, Moses" and "Amazing Grace." The program talks one-on-one to many members of the choir, who share astonishing stories of emotional and spiritual transformation and redemption by virtue of exposure to the music, and speak of the profound ways in which spiritual music can heal the wounds within the African American community that exist because of racism.
