Alternately adventurous, melancholic, anxious, jazzy, humorous, foreboding, and celebratory, Michael Giacchino's (Up [Original Score], Jurassic World [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack]) whimsical score for Inside Out is as colorful as the film, a Pixar-animated blockbuster about the emotional inner workings of a girl's brain as she struggles with loss and change. The Oscar-winning composer achieves a classic cartoon sound by way of a judiciously applied full orchestra, piano, guitars, melodic percussion, and playful electronic effects that together, at times, reach a Raymond Scott-like level of friskiness. Inside Out marked Giacchino's fifth score for a Pixar feature. ~ Marcy Donelson
