Former Mad Lads lead singer John Gary Williams shines on his first and only solo effort and delivers some of the sweetest Southern soul that you'll ever hear. Williams' aching, Southern style is aptly used on remakes of the Four Tops' "Ask the Lonely," and the Spinners' "How Could I Let You Get Away," and Bobby Goldboro's "Honey," giving new feels to the classics. Williams also remakes the Newcomers' little-known "Open Your Heart (And Let Love Come In"), a tender, syncopated ballad. The title cut "The Whole Damn World Is Going Crazy" showed promise when released as a single, but died a quick and sudden death -- a shame, because it's a good piece of social commentary. ~ Andrew Hamilton
