Teen-pop sensation JoJo practically grew up on the talk-show circuit, getting her break by wowing Bill Cosby on KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS, an appearance that caught the eye of Oprah Winfrey. Her self-titled debut is a consistent collection of infectious, peppy pop music with an R&B tint that places her in the style of Brandy.
The title of JOJO's first track, the revved-up and funky "Breezy," sums up the spirit of the record, as JoJo's elastic vocals belie her age. She displays an uncanny ability to balance the sensuous and the sweet on the friendship-turning-into-love jam "Homeboy," and even shows a knack for ballads with a faithful rendition of SWV's 1992 hit "Weak." Sure, JoJo is young, but she proves herself to be a performer beyond her years on this strong debut.
