Long-running Philadelphia psych-rockers Asteroid No. 4 teamed up with U.K. popsike godfather Peter Daltrey in 2011 to record the collaborative album The Journey. Though not a household name, Daltrey's work with his '60s band Kaleidoscope, Fairfield Parlour, and later solo work earned him a place in the acid archives among die-hard psych enthusiasts. The Journey plays on the strengths of both entities, with Daltrey singing leads on most songs and the Asteroid No. 4 backing him with their patented country-tinged jangle on tracks like "Wishing Well," Byrds meets Rain Parade 12-string melancholia on "Pounding on the Door," and rambling acoustic acid folk redux on the softly glowing nine-minute title track. ~ Fred Thomas
