One of three tapes in the Great Generals of the Ancient World series, Great Generals of the Ancient World: Julius Caesar concerns the great general who also became an emperor. Gaius Julius Caesar came from a noble but poor Roman family. The politically ambitious Caesar fought his way to prominence first as a soldier, achieving the rank of general. He won many victories for Rome, and became a member of the First Triumvirate with Pompey and Crassus. Defeating Pompey in a civil war, Caesar became a dictatorial emperor for four years. In 44 B.C., on the Ides of March (the 15th), the conspiratorial Senators assassinated Julius Caesar, but they could not prevent a long line of Caesars from dominating Rome. The other two tapes in the series profile Hannibal and Alexander the Great.
