Personnel includes: Peter Blegvad, John Greaves, Lisa Herman.
Personnel: John Greaves (vocals, piano, organ); Lisa Herman (vocals); Peter Blegvad (vocals, guitar); Carla Bley (vocals); Michael Levine (violin, viola); Vito Rendace (flute, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone); Mike Mantler (trumpet, trombone); Andrew Cyrille (drums, percussion).
Recording information: Grog Kill Studio, Woodstock, NY (10/1976).
Arranger: John Greaves.
KEW. RHONE. is a dense song cycle with lyrics by Peter Blegvad and music by John Greaves. The two began working together when Blegvad's band, Slapp Happy, became part of Henry Cow. The union didn't last, but the two men have continued to work together over the following decades. This work bears some comparisons with Carla Bley's ESCALATOR OVER THE HILL. In fact, Bley appears on this release and the whole thing was recorded at her Grog Kill Studio near Woodstock, New York. Some of the other players are also regulars of that scene, including drummer Andrew Cyrille and trumpet player Michael Mantler (who also engineered the album). Lisa Herman is the primary vocalist for the project (though others, primarily Blegvad, also sing). This new issue of the album includes a multimedia track with additional notes, imagery and sounds.
