Kin marks an unusual recorded collaboration between songwriter Rodney Crowell and best-selling memoirist and poet Mary Karr (The Liar's Club, Lit). The pair grew up within 100 miles of one another in Texas, and shared similar experiences in childhood, telling stories of substance abuse and recovery and spirituality. The album was produced by Joe Henry, and features performances from other "musical "kin" including Norah Jones, Vince Gill, Lucinda Williams, Lee Ann Womack, Rosanne Cash, Chely Wright, Kris Kristofferson, and Emmylou Harris.
