Personnel: John Coltrane (bass clarinet, soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone); Pharoah Sanders (flute, tenor saxophone); Alice Coltrane (piano); Rashied Ali (drums); Emanuel Rahim (percussion).
Recording information: The Village Vanguard, New York City (05/28/1966).
John Coltrane plays passionately on "My Favorite Things" and with great beauty on "Naima," while Pharoah Sanders' ferocious sax appears on the latter piece. Pianist Alice Coltrane, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Rashied Ali mostly vamp behind the saxophonists. This album is worth getting for Coltrane's passionate but coherent playing. ~ Scott Yanow
