The Stooges: Iggy Pop (vocals); Ron Asheton (vocals, bass); James Williamson (guitar); Scott Thurston (harmonica, piano); Scott Asheton (drums).
Recorded live at the Whiskey A GoGo, Los Angeles, California on September 16, 1973.
Recorded a few weeks before another live document of the Stooges final U.S. tour (METALLIC 2xKO), LIVE AT THE WHISKEY A GO GO covers much of the same ground as it's predecessor. And while it's not as confrontational as METALLIC proved to be (a biker gang wasn't wreaking havoc in the crowd at this show!), the band sounds just as tight, and the music is still aggressive and intense. Although the album was produced and mixed by Stooges member Ron Asheton, the sound is comparable to the band's other live recordings - absolute lo-fi.
LIVE AT THE WHISKEY A GO GO includes a couple of tracks not included on METALLIC 2xKO, such as the unreleased raging instrumental "She Creatures of the Hollywood Hills" and the groove-heavy RAW POWER rocker "I Need Somebody," which proves to be even more vicious in a live setting. You'll also find such classics as "Search and Destroy," "Gimme Danger," and RAW POWER's title track, as well as several songs that were supposed to be on the band's next album - "Head On," "New Orleans" (a.k.a. "Heavy Liquid"), and "Open Up and Bleed." LIVE AT THE WHISKEY A GO GO captures the latter-day Stooges line-up in full concert flight.
