More so than with Girls, Christopher Owens addresses personal issues on his debut solo album, Lysandre, an album named for a girl he dated while on the road with his critically acclaimed former band. At its core, it is a concept record, chronicling the events of that relationship and entirely written in the key of A. This gives the album a unified feel, with vulnerable lyrics taken straight from diary entries and a soft tone throughout. Folky acoustic guitar and Owens' wispy voice lay the foundation, while seven other Bay Area musicians add chamber pop textures, including flute, saxophone, and orchestral arrangements.
