This program features composer Gustav Mahler's first symphony, created in search of a work that echoed industrialism and society in the nineteenth century, as performed by the Utah Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Maurice Abravanel. Abravanel created an enduring legacy during his time with the orchestra, from 1947 until 1979, and through four world tours, turned it into one of the country's most respected institutions.
