Milestones [Living Era]

This CD is a compilation of early Miles Davis tracks and is NOT the Columbia album called MILESTONES released in 1958.
Personnel includes: Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie (trumpet); Charlie Parker (alto saxophone); Lucky Thompson (tenor saxophone); J.J. Johnson (trombone); Bud Powell, John Lewis (piano); Max Roach (drums).
Recorded between 1945 and 1947.
Milestones compiles 15 original mono tracks recorded by Miles Davis between 1947 and 1954. The set covers four tracks from The Birth of the Cool sessions and two early Savoy dates from August 1947, and the remaining nine songs feature Miles leading various sextets, quintets, and quartets for the Prestige label. Since all of this material is easily available elsewhere, and in certain cases with excellent remastered sound, this Living Era set is a bit redundant. ~ Al Campbell
