From one music phenomenon of the '60s to another, Motown Celebrates Sinatra includes 16 tracks, almost all of which were standards by the singer of the century. Motown's deep roster of talent makes sure this is more than just a novelty exercise; many artists here are quite capable of interpreting Sinatra's songs with more than just casual results -- listen to Marvin Gaye's smooth and sultry versions of "Witchcraft" and "One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)" or Levi Stubbs' tears on the Four Tops' version of "In the Still of the Night" or the Temptations' "Night and Day." Not all of the tracks here are quite worthy of the compilation -- specifically, "My Way" by the Originals and "Moonlight in Vermont" by Junior Walker & the All-Stars -- but the number of excellent covers by artists able to give their own spin on a standard makes for many intriguing moments. ~ John Bush
