Andy is a silent young man who had lost contact with his mother after she was institutionalized. When he loses his father, Frederick, he finds himself in the company of Dr. Wallace Fiennes, a psychiatrist who specializes in treatments such as lobotomy and electroshock therapy. As his photographer, Andy joins the doctor on a road trip taking pictures of patients all over the country. They meet Jack, a father who wants his daughter Susan to be lobotomized.
