The Jamaican pop music industry has always been prolific, ever-shifting, and built independently from the ground up for the most part, and per capita, no place on earth produces more records, remixes, dubs, do-overs, and left-field releases than Jamaica. This two-disc set collects some of the big island hits from 1961 and includes tracks by early Jamaican pop stars like Laurel Aitken, Derrick Morgan, Eric Morris, the Folkes Brothers, Clancy Eccles, Don Drummond, and Byron Lee & the Dragonaires, among many others. ~ Steve Leggett
