With OUR FINEST FLOWERS, The Residents celebrate their 20th anniversary by revisiting songs from their vast back catalog. Rather than simply playing new versions of old material, the band roams freely through its archives, cutting up Residents recordings at will, and using the snippets as foundations for new pieces. As The Residents' identity has always been found in their unique sound rather than in particular songs, the approach suits them ideally. They take vocal tracks from one piece and combine them with music from another, adding in newly recorded parts as needed or desired. OUR FINEST FLOWERS successfully commemorates the group's accomplishments--in fine Residents fashion--and serves as more than a mere retrospective collection.
