Pandas and Pygmies: True Survivors

As originally aired on The Discovery Channel, this set brings into a single collection two nature documentaries linked by the shared theme of endangered species. The first, THE GIANT PANDA, discusses why the titular members of the bear family continue to decline in number despite universal adoration - an encroaching extinction brought about by poaching, habitat destruction, and the the fragmentation of China's mountain ranges. The second, BORNEO'S PYGMY ELEPHANTS, introduces audiences to a species of Borneo elephant with an average height about three feet shorter than its African counterparts. It also profiles Bert Dausip, a naturalist who has devoted his life and energy to protecting these spectacular animals.
