Rock & roll didn't just happen--it evolved from assorted strands and streams of music over a period of time. Circa 1950, the pianist and singer Willie Perryman adopted the name Piano Red and proceeded to pound those 88s with his combination of boogie-woogie and stomping rhythm & blues. While he didn't exactly set the world ablaze, Red made some fine records in the early 1950s and early `60s (when he took yet another moniker, Dr. Feelgood), garnered a few hits, and inspired rockers-to-be Little Richard and Carl Perkins. For those devotees of the foundations of rock and R&B, ROCKS is gold.
