This CD reissue combines together the complete contents of two similar sessions by pianist Kenny Drew. With the assistance of bassist Wilbur Ware, Drew performs a dozen songs apiece from the Harry Warren and Harold Arlen songbooks. The interpretations, originally released on the Judson label, are quite melodic, tasteful and lightly swinging. Drew does come out with any new revelations while playing songs such as "Lullaby of Broadway," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "That Old Black Magic" and "It's Only a Paper Moon" but neither do these versions sound overly nostalgic or tired. This is a nice set if not all that essential. ~ Scott Yanow
