Audio Remasterers: Mark St. John; Andy Pearce.
Liner Note Authors: Dick Taylor ; Bryan Morrison; Jimmy Duncan; Pierre Perrone; Phil May.
One of the rawest and easily the most garage and punk of the British blues bands that fed the British Invasion pop era of the mid-'60s, the Pretty Things, led by the Mick Jagger-like lead vocals of Phil May and the kinetic, stinging electric guitar lines of Dick Taylor, managed to find a gazillion different ways to work Bo Diddley rhythms into songs that tilted, jerked, and growled with attitude on their first two albums, The Pretty Things and Get the Picture?, both of which appeared in 1965. This set combines both of those albums and adds in a dozen bonus tracks cut for singles and EP releases at the same sessions, including the marvelous and manic "Midnight to Six Man" and the purposely messy and loose "L.S.D.," which prefigured the psychedelic turn the band was about to take with 1967's Emotions LP. ~ Steve Leggett
