Sony Music's Pure... Metal would benefit from a question mark after its title, as its 46 tracks run the gamut from undeniably pure (Judas Priest, Motörhead) to '80s Alice Cooper and toothless nu-metal. That said, it's nice to see largely unheralded (at least in the metal mainstream) acts like Prong, Opeth, Coheed and Cambria, and Anathema receive slots alongside more established metal practitioners like Scorpions, Korn, and System of a Down, but for the most part, the song choices are odd and hardly representative of the artists. ~ James Christopher Monger
