An army deserter (Jean Gabin) plots to leave France until he gets involved with a teen sex kitten (Michele Morgan) and the gangster who lusts after her. Stark, moody crime opus with Pierre Brasseur. Marcel Carne directed. A.k.a. "Port of Shadows." The screenplay was written by Jacques Prevert, who also collaborated with Carne on "Daybreak" (1936) and "Children of Paradise" (1946). The costumes were designed by an uncredited Coco Chanel.
