Ray Conniff debuted as a trombonist for several prominent big bands before becoming a staff arranger at Columbia in the '50s. Beginning in 1956, he launched a prolific solo career leading his own orchestra, recording and arranging easy listening instrumental music for the adult albums market. His albums were a massive success, selling well over 50 million throughout his lengthy career, which peaked in the '60s.
