A reassembled and altered version (with a greatly toned-down cover) of Trojan's 1997 set with the same title, Rebel Music remains an intriguing, if slightly unfocused, compilation of '70s rocksteady and reggae sides and features solid gems like Alton Ellis' sad and eerie "If I Could Rule This World," Augustus Pablo's truly haunting "East of the River Nile," the Heptones' scathing "Hypocrite" and Big Youth's classic "S90 Skank."
