Trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton and clarinetist Wally Fawkes first met up in 1947 as part of George Webb's Dixielanders in Great Britain. Forty-four years later they had a musical reunion on this exciting CD, jamming with a septet also including either John Beecham or Keith Nichols on trombone and pianist Stan Greig. In addition to four originals, the group mostly emphasizes such fresh material as "Gate Mouth," Luis Russell's "Doctor Blues," "Breeze," and "Viper Mad." Lyttelton, at age 70, had lost little and he also plays some excellent clarinet on three tunes, including an exciting version of "Ole Miss." Recommended to trad jazz fans. ~ Scott Yanow
