Robert Mugge, a director who is best known for his contributions to the world of music documentaries (including HELLHOUNDS ON MY TRAIL, BLACK WAX, and DEEP BLUES), returns to the Deep South with RHYTHM 'N' BAYOUS. Subtitled A ROAD MAP TO LOUISIANA MUSIC, Mugge's film is just that--taking the viewer on a personal tour through the many various communities that have created highly original, lasting contributions to the American musical spectrum. Broken up into three parts, Mugge first visits Northern Louisiana and Dr. Michael Luster, the executive director of the Louisiana Folklife Festival, who introduces many of that area's legendary players (including Kenny Bill Stinson, Merle Kilgore, Claude King, and Buddy Flett). He then travels to New Orleans and Baton Rouge, where Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum president Terry Stewart interviews world-renowned record store and record company owner Floyd Soileau. Finally, Mugge lands in Southwestern Louisiana--more specifically, Eunice--where he meets the gifted Viator family, whose 15-year-old daughter, Alida, plays the fiddle with Rosie Ledet & The Zydeco Playboys. Along the way, Mugge captures exhilarating performances from a variety of Louisiana musicians in order to prove just how varied and exciting the Lousiana music scene has always been, and will continue to be.
