River Runs Through It [WS/P&S]

It's doubtful many studio heads thought that a popular film about fly fishing and family could be made, but Robert Redford's A River Runs Through It deserves its wide and faithful following. While this Columbia DVD release of the screen adaptation of Norman MacLean's book doesn't come with any meaningful extras, it is still a worthy release. What makes it meaningful is the fine anamorphic widescreen transfers that captures Philippe Rousselot's exquisite cinematography and a Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround audio track that matches the visual details. While fly fishing has a relatively small, if devoted following, coming-of-age stories are universal in their power and appeal. DVD extras are generally watched just once, but A River Runs Through It deserves repeated viewings.
