Rosetta [Criterion Collection]

Belgian brothers Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne wrote and directed this gritty portrait of a young working-class woman (Emilie Dequenne) who has just been fired from her job, and whose hardscrabble life includes dealing with an alcoholic mother. The film won the Palme d'Or at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival, along with the Best Actress prize for Dequenne.
