S.O.U.L.

Sony's budget-line S.O.U.L. series produced ten-track compilations for many of the high-profile R&B artists beneath the distributor's wings. One of the deeper catalogs -- that of Teddy Pendergrass -- is whittled into a sampler-like set here. It is merely the tip of the iceberg and doesn't really cut to the chase by sticking to the biggest hits, either. The likes of "Love T.K.O.," "Turn Off the Lights," and "Get Up, Get Down, Get Funky, Get Loose" mix it up with some of Pendergrass' key lead turns with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, including "If You Don't Know Me by Now" and "Bad Luck." ~ Andy Kellman
