Curated by Bob Stanley, Songs for a Central Park Picnic is the second installment in the musician, journalist, DJ, and longtime member of English indie/dance-pop outfit Saint Etienne's popular Saint Etienne Presents series. Like Songs for the Lyons Cornerhouse, Central Park Picnic is evocative of a certain place. This time around, Stanley focuses on 1940s- and 50s-era New York City, offering up a heady mix of material from girl groups, doo wop, R&B, jazz, and Latin artists, including selections from Vince Guaraldi, Dion, the Drifters, Yma Sumac, and the Tams. ~ James Christopher Monger
