Among the fiercest and most influential of the bands who emerged in the first wave of British punk, Wire proved their edgy and intelligent music had lost none of its potency when, in 2003, they released their first new album in 12 years, Send. Wire followed the album with an enthusiastically received tour of Europe and the United Kingdom, and in the spring of 2004 the group were invited to play Scotland's prestigious Triptych Festival. Wire rose to the occasion with a storming performance featuring both old and new material, and artist Tom Gidley filmed the show for posterity. Wire: The Scottish Play is a home video release culled from the Triptych Festival performance; selections include "Read and Burn," "99.9," "Germ Ship," "Pink Flag," "Surgeon's Girl," "Strange," and more.
