Slapstick Symposium - Extra Girl /The Gusher

Silent comedy king Mack Sennett found his muse in Mabel Normand, perhaps the pre-sound era's funniest actress and the costar of Charlie Chaplin's TILLIE'S PUNCTURED ROMANCE. For fans of the pair's work--or for those about to discover their genius--this release highlights two of their collaborations. In THE EXTRA GIRL, Normand sets out for Hollywood to seek her fame and fortune. What she ends up with is a series of comic misadventures including one of her most famous scenes--taking a lion for a walk. Set against the backdrop of the California oil fields, the short film THE GUSHER centers on a man's attempts to con a pair of newlyweds. This film also stars the Keystone Cops.
