Hailing from Cwmaman, South Wales, the alternative rock band The Stereophonics (Kelly Jones, Richard Jones, and Stuart Cable, later replaced by Javier Weyler) grew out of the cover band Tragic Love Company in the mid-nineties, before signing as one of the first acts on Virgin mogul Richard Branson's V2 record label prior to the official launch of that company (c. August 1996). In the process, the group landed the critical respect that it deserved, earning somewhat overdue recognition for Kelly Jones's well-honed composition skills and distinguished vocal abilities. Six hit LPs followed through 2006, including Word Gets Around (1997), Performance and Cocktails (1999), Just Enough Education to Perform (2001), You Gotta Go There To Come Back (2003), Language. Sex. Violence. Other? (2005), and Live From Dakota (2006). The home video release The Stereophonics: Language. Sex. Violence. Other? features a live concert, with the group performing ten numbers, including (though not limited to) many of the tracks on the album of the same title. Selections include: "Maybe Tomorrow," "Deadhead," "Mr. Writer" and "Madame Helga." The release also includes promotional videos for "Dakota," "Superman," "Devil" and "Rewind."
