Like 1991's HEARTBREAK STATION, STILL CLIMBING continues Cinderella's incorporation of the blues into their sound. Despite the absence of longtime drummer Fred Coury (who departed for the band Arcade), Tom Keifer and company haven't lost a step, putting together an album gilded with confectionary ballads, but containing rock 'n' roll at its core. Mellencamp traps man Kenny Aronoff fills the chair and punches up Cinderella's sound, particularly on "All Comes Down" and "Freewheelin'." The big ballad on this record is "Hard To Find The Words" which Keifer wrote after his mother was diagnosed with cancer. With its raspy vocals and "Freebird"-inspired intro, the song fits in perfectly with the rest of this collection. Jeff Lebar and Keifer remain a formidable duo on guitar, particularly on the free-flying epic "The Road's Still Long," which has the two layering on slide and acoustic guitars.
