Whereas many bands start out with a basic sound and get progressively more experimental as they flex their creative muscles, Clutch, over the course of 15 albums, stripped down its music to its bare, heavy essence, garnering an intensely loyal fan base in the process. STRANGE COUSINS FROM THE WEST finds Clutch heavily steeped in `70s-style heavy blues rock, spitting out a heaping bong load of chugging guitar/bass/drums/vocal jams refreshingly free from multi-tracked six-string overdubs and studio trickery. Songs such as the Mountain-seque "50,000 Unstoppable Watts" and the swampy, funky "Witchdoctor" represent a tight, rockin' band doing what they do best with no excuses and no compromises.
