From director Richard Linklater's film adaptation of an Eric Bogosian play about dissafected youth comes this soundtrack album of songs for the discerning slacker. Previously-unreleased tunes by acts like Beck, Elastica and three by Sonic Youth keep the SUBURBIA soundtrack entirely out of the background-music-in-the-foreground morass and make this album a must for collectors.
Pavement's Steven Malkmus joins Elastica on a version of the X (the band, not the generation) song "The Unheard Music." Beck checks in with "Feather In Your Cap," a dark, moody, low-key number that would sound at home on MELLOW GOLD. Sonic Youth offers up a bonanza of new material, including the eight-minute guitarfest "Sunday" and the Indian hip-hop instrumental "Tabla In Suburbia," not to mention "Psychic Hearts," the driving, expletive-laden title track from SY guitarist Thurston Moore's solo album.
