In the information age, nostalgia moves faster than ever. So the release of a '90s collection in 2001 is par for the course. In an accelerated continuum of pop culture, two years is ample time for a pop song to develop a rosy retrospective glow. TOTALLY '90S presents a fairly wide cross-section of hits from the titular decade. Some will be well known to anyone with access a radio during those years (EMF's breathless "Unbelievable," the socially conscious hip-hop of Arrested Development's "Mr. Wendel." However, some of the tunes here stretch the definition of "essential" (raise your hand if you remember the Debbie Harry/Iggy Pop version of "Well Did You Evah," originally sung by Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra in HIGH SOCIETY). Nevertheless, this compilation gives the listener an accurate feelfor what pop radio was like in the '90s.
