Airing between 1952 and 1961, Town Hall Party was a weekly television show broadcast live in the Los Angeles area which presented in-person performances from some of the biggest names in country music. Town Hall Party: August 8, 1959 is drawn from archival kinescopes of the original broadcasts. This episode features two sets from Johnny Cash (including a comedy bit in which Cash imitates Elvis Presley), as well as appearances from Tex Ritter, Johnny Bond, Skeets McDonald, and Joe Maphis. Jay Stewart, later announcer for the hit game show Let's Make a Deal, is the host.
