This two-LP anthology sums up Herbie Hancock's three exciting, forward-looking albums for Warner Bros. by squeezing together a few tracks from Fat Albert Rotunda, about half of Mwandishi, and about two-thirds of Crossings. It also includes something which no other album has: a brief, 45 rpm-length sampling edited for radio called "Crossings," which superimposes electronic effects from the album onto the galvanic funk break at the center of "Sleeping Giant." Otherwise, this set has been superseded by Mwandishi: The Complete Warner Bros. Recordings, which gives you all of the contents in the above albums. ~ Richard S. Ginell
