While most remembered as the steel guitarist in Bob Wills's Texas Playboys, Leon McAuliffe recorded a classic spate of western swing sides for Columbia records from 1949 to 1955. Bear Family compiles 31 of these tracks for TULSA STRAIGHT AHEAD--a single disc must-own for fans of western swing, hillbilly boogie, and even early rock & roll. Featuring several previously unreleased gems--"Panhandle Rag" and Hard-Hearted Girl" are among the set's many highlights--TULSA STRAIGHT AHEAD captures an undersung genius at the peak of his powers, pushing the limits of his instrument.
