Based on a series of novels by Ono Fuyumi, rather than applying the typical strategy of adapting the latest popular manga, THE TWELVE KINGDOMS is a fantasy Animé of epic proportions. Given the knowledge that one day she will be a great ruler, teenager Yoko Nakajimi is transported to another world. There, 12 kingdoms remain entrenched in perpetual war with one another, and Yoko finds herself inexorably drawn into the conflicts and politicking of this strange realm. THE TWELVE KINGDOMS is comparable to other fantasy animé with female protagonists like FUSHIGI YUGI, VISION OF ESCAFLOWNE, and INUYASHA, approached with a mature understanding of psychology and society. The Animé has an elaborate and detailed vision pursued with the same mania as Tolkien.
