For an artist who died in 1960 when he was only 21 years old, Eddie Cochran left behind a surprising number of tracks, and most of the best of these are included in this 24-cut compilation. His most famous songs are here, classic sides like "C'mon Everybody," "Twenty Flight Rock," and "Summertime Blues," along with other gems like "Cut Across Shorty," all of which magnify the loss to rock & roll when Cochran died: he was a fine songwriter and he knew his way creatively around a recording studio, too, being one of the first artists to experiment with overdubbing. This set makes a fair introduction to his legacy, although there are some obvious omissions here, including great sides like "My Way," "Weekend," and "Nervous Breakdown." ~ Steve Leggett
