Their sound maturing, Memphis May Fire grow into a more refined band on their fourth album, Unconditional. Expanding on the pop influences that crept into their sound on 2012's Challenger, the album finds the Texas band making more use of the studio with an album that feels altogether more put-together than any of their previous work. The band also take a few opportunities to get more atmospheric, giving the album a dramatic arc as it flows from drifting electronica to pounding metalcore. Willing to explore and expand rather than simply hammer away at the same old formulaic sound, it's clear that Memphis May Fire have grown into a more fully realized band, and while they haven't abandoned their old ways completely, Unconditional feels like a reintroduction to the band that metalcore fans will want to dig into. ~ Gregory Heaney
