Vladimir Ashkenazy: Master Musician

The Russian pianist-conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy (b. 1937) toplines this compilation. It begins with the biographical documentary The Vital Juices Are Russian -- filmed in 1968, not long after Ashkenazy moved from London to Iceland, and directed by Christopher Nupen. Also included are a montage of sequences from the 26 films that Nupen and Ashkenazy made together, and a concert film with music based on Rachmaninov's Corelli Variations, performed at Lugario.
