Actor Richard E. Grant's directorial debut is a wry and insightful semiautobiographical coming-of-age saga set in 1969 Swaziland. Nicholas Hoult is Grant's alter ego, a disillusioned teen observing the foibles of dysfunctional British colonials, especially those of his alcoholic father (Gabriel Byrne) and his adulterous mother (Miranda Richardson).
