Regina Spektor reunited with producer Mike Elizondo for What We Saw from the Cheap Seats, but his sleek-but-not-too-slick sound is the main thing this album has in common with its predecessor, Far. Songs such as lead single "All the Rowboats" mark a return to the darkly witty territory of her earlier work, and it sounds especially welcome compared to the sugary territory Spektor explored on her last album. One constant in her work, however, is her seemingly effortless ability to juggle wit, emotion, and humor -- and Cheap Seats puts it on full display for her fans.
