White Zombie

Classic horror star Bela Lugosi is featured in the terrifying classic White Zombie. The Roan Group's work on this 1.37:1 non-anamorphic widescreen transfer is very nice. Sporting solid black-and-white levels with a minimum of grain, dirt, or defects, this image looks about as good as the film is ever going to get. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono and, not surprisingly, is very flat and unimpressive. However, the soundtrack is generally free of any excessive distortion with only a minimal amount of hiss in the mix. No alternate subtitles are available on this disc. The extra features on this DVD are slim but substantial. Included on White Zombie is a very informative and entertaining commentary track by Lugosi scholar Gary Don Rhodes (including scene dismantling and analysis of different camera techniques), a staged 1932 interview with Lugosi, a second interview from 1951 with Lugosi, and a reissue trailer for the film.
