In the near future, the daughter of a robotics engineer inexplicably vanishes, inspiring one of his creations to hire detective David Carmichael to uncover her whereabouts. David finds an unlikely ally in Jane, an advanced model, and soon realizes the implications of the girl's disappearance are more profound than either of them could have anticipated.
